Trade Sign circa 19th century
This piece depicts a pair of eyeglasses along with an as-found eye doctor sign attached to the bottom of the eyeglass frames. Handcrafted from pine boards salvaged from a 100-year-old outbuilding located in upstate New York. Antique red stain glass, copper and iron are incorporated into the piece. Buttermilk paint along with gold gilding is applied in numerous layers then removed to give the piece a time worn appearance. Eyeglasses are mounted on a table top museum mount along with a wall-mounted bracket for display.
