This patriotic hero who became president at such a difficult period in our history has been a potent source of inspiration to folk artist who are moved by his ideals, by his humble origins, by his wit, his courage and his sufferings. Everyone recognizes the figure of this tall, gaunt man with the sensitive, brooding expression. Handcrafted from salvaged 100-year-old heart pine located in Bath, NY circa 1895. Copper and iron is applied to piece. Red, white, blue and black buttermilk paint is applied in numerous layers to give the piece a time worn appearance. The piece is hallmarked and mounted on a wooden porch column salvaged from a building located in historic Ithaca, NY.
